'We're all Going on a Summer Holiday', by Belinda

Please see below a Blog written by one of our Australian-trained teachers...

Six weeks of classroom-free bliss! As happy as we are as teachers and rewarding as our jobs can be, you can’t tell me you are not looking forward to summer holidays! For me, this is an event I have been anticipating all year and as an Australian teacher, I relish the opportunity to explore Europe on an extended basis. So I hopped along to the Protocol Travel Evening last week to see what was out there for the summer.

Free food and drinks and a plethora of companies offering discounted prices awaited me. There really was something for everyone, from the person who wants a hassle free, all inclusive tour, to the person who only wants a bit of guidance to create their own adventure. However, the best part of all was the raffle (probably because I won a prize – woo!) with the biggest prize of a 9-day trip to Egypt! I strongly encourage everyone to come along to Protocol events, because not only can you win a prize, but the more you put into something, the more you can get out of it. You can meet other teachers, share your experiences, and get to know the faces of the people behind the telephones at our agency, all while having a good time. A big thank you to Protocol Education and Cordelia for organising the evening.

Now, back to the summer holiday. I have to admit, I’m cutting it a bit fine. Only three more weeks and I still haven’t booked anything. Perhaps it’s my supply teacher lifestyle. I don’t know where I’m going for work every day so it makes sense not to know where I’m going three weeks in advance! My adventurous idea is to book a flight to one destination (thinking Helsinki or Prague at this point) and then a bus/train/ferry to wherever next takes my fancy and so on until I feel like coming home. Or the budget runs out. Wish me luck! So fellow teachers, what are your exciting travel plans for the summer? Maybe you can give me some good ideas!

P.S. The prize I won was a three day trip to Amsterdam thanks to International Friends, and you can see how excited I am here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/album.php?aid=180669&id=746717913 .
