What's All The Fuss About Watford?

When you register with Protocol Education, you have the option of not only teaching through our 3 London offices but through 11 other regional branches all across the country. Many teachers aren’t too keen on the fast-paced lifestyle of London so be sure to cast an eye over our 11 other offices outside of the capital!

Today we’ll take a look at our Watford branch which covers areas such as Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. We have schools in regional centres like Reading, Slough, St. Albans, Luton, Oxford, Maidenhead, Milton Keynes and Stevenage. Watford also places teachers in much smaller village schools, so if thatched roofs and quiet laneways are your thing then you’re in the right place!

Geographically, the Watford branch covers a wide area NW of London (see here). Based on main line train stations in London, you are never more than a 40 minute train ride away from the excitement and bustle of the city although you can enjoy the perks of living just outside.

The areas that our Watford branch covers are really quite diverse. There is the beautiful market town of St Albans, where the majority of the residents are professional workers who commute into London. Consequently the area is affluent with excellent schools, where the parents are supportive and the kids are keen to learn. The town itself has wine bars and an excellent social network. The schools pay well and welcome our overseas colleagues.

Luton, although not far from St. Albans, is quite a different experience altogether. Luton is a highly multicultural area and a melting pot of cultures, with more than one-third of the population being from an Asian background. This is reflected in the school body with many students coming from 1st or 2nd generation families where English isn’t their first language. Luton is also home to one of the UK’s cheapest international airports, so if cheap flights to Europe are your thing then you’re in the right place!

In Oxford the schools realise the importance of happy teaching staff where no matter whether you decide to utilise your skills with the abundance of daily supply work in Oxfordshire or commit to a more longer term assignment. You will benefit from the full support of the head teacher, senior management staff and parents alike. As one of the UK’s most established, academic and successful universities this is an area where you will always find something to do. The buildings are stunning and steeped with history where you can take one of the many tours where you will scrape the surface of the background to this world renowned city. It is truly a beautiful area where you can choose to be as active with many of the popular sports clubs, or chill with activities as British as punting down the river Thames

Teaching in the Watford area you will also benefit from the knowledge and support of one of the most successful regional consultants in the Company. Daniel Grace has been placing teaching from overseas in the Watford area for over 3 years and has some excellent working relationships with the schools across the area. Having visited all the schools and with this level of experience he is constantly the first port of call from the majority of schools who are looking to find the teacher who are best matched to the schools.

If you are looking for a supportive and enriching teaching experience during your time in the UK in an area that can offer low costs of living, beautiful surrounding only a short train ride from London this is definitely an area that should be carefully considered. But don’t take our word for it; feel free to contact your local consultant in Australia to discuss the immediate teaching opportunities and the schools who would be keen to offer regular supply or something more permanent.
