Making the move

Amy has recently arrived in the UK and shares her first experiences.

I first found out about Protocol Education through my university.  The application process was so easy.  I attended an information session in Brisbane and was able to have an interview with Nicole that same day.  I wasn’t sure what to expect with the interview but Nicole was so easy going and relaxed, I felt really comfortable.  Nicole was amazing throughout the whole process, from organizing police checks, to answering at least one million of my questions (no exaggeration!)  Nothing was too hard for her and she was so supportive.  I got on the plane to the UK feeling confident and excited.

I met with Zaima on the day after I arrived in London and she was lovely. She went through all the paperwork with me, then she called some of the other Protocol Education offices to talk with consultants about the type of work I'd like. I also got to meet Chris from the London West Primary team who was great.  Zaima then sent me across the road to set up my bank account, which was so simple.

That afternoon, I got a call from Chris who had 2 weeks of work for me straight away.

I was really nervous on my first day of school.  But I was met by the Assistant Headteacher who took me straight to the classroom I needed to be in, and told me everything I needed to know.  The class was a year 2 class that were taking their Sats tests so their teacher was out of the classroom with a small group while I taught the rest of the class.  The teacher of the class was really lovely, so easy to talk to, and straight away I felt comfortable and any nerves I had went out the window.  In the class was also a prac teacher, who was very passionate and professional and it was a joy to work with him.

Since then, I have had supply work every single day in a variety of different schools in South London, near where I live.  Every time a consultant calls me, they are so friendly and really take into account your current situation.  Sometimes they even call just to catch up and see how I am going which makes me feel really comfortable with Protocol Education.

I told various consultants that I was looking for a long term position in September, and each time they asked me exactly what it is I would liked, including age group and type of school so that they could find me the perfect position.  Last week, I did a job trial and an interview at a lovely school in South West London.  Again, I was super nervous, but as soon as I met the Deputy Headteachers I was immediately at ease and felt comfortable.  The interview process was very relaxed and I felt really supported by the two headteachers interviewing me.  The next day, I got a call from Candice saying that I had got the job!  I was so happy and I am really excited to begin with my own class in the new school year!
I am so impressed with Protocol Education. Everything was made so easy for me in Australia.  It was really straight forward, and the support and guidance I received from Nicole was amazing. Once I got to London, it was even simpler and I can't believe how quickly I was able to start working.  Thanks to Chris, Candice, Oliver and the rest of the Protocol Education team in London for helping me settle into London life so easily!
