Chris Makes the Move to the UK

Chris has recently moved from Australia to the UK. He takes a moment to look back on how he got here and how he has found it so far.

I was in my first year of teaching, up in Cairns, when I started researching teaching overseas. Fortunately for me I found out that Protocol Education was having an information night very close to me. This was a fantastic starting point for me, providing a lot of useful information and allowing me to ask any questions I could possibly come up with.

Skip forwards a few months and I was nervously trying to organise everything from packing to getting my visa. I'd had my passport stolen before I left Australia as well which had put some serious delays in my preparation. With the help of Protocol Education’s Brisbane office I eventually made it over to London.

Within a week I had had my first meeting at Protocol Education's office, I left with a working phone number, a way to set up my bank account, and my National Insurance number sorted. For me I wanted to do supply work and I have found it to be completely different yet equally rewarding to the teaching I was doing in Queensland. Through supply work I've had to deal with a lot of the consultants at Protocol Education's London office. All of them have been very friendly and extremely reliable, whether it be helpful messages of where to go, or phone calls with feedback from schools.

Some things have taken a while to adjust to, such as the weather, but most of challenges I've faced I have overcome. The experiences I've gained and the things I've learnt both professionally and on a personal level make me extremely glad I've had this fantastic opportunity.

Are you thinking of teaching in the UK? Or maybe somewhere else? Get in touch with our Australian or New-Zealand team and we will help you every step of the way.
