Back to the Grind

Heather is a Primary Teacher from Canada who is currently working in London through Protocol Education.

While our schools have been eerily empty over the summer, we've been enjoying the lovely weather that has hit London these past weeks. The time has flown and we are once more back at our desks with loads to get through and the tasks before us seem daunting.

As our classes get back underway, our students return to their schedules and so do we. However, with the already decreasing sunlight and the expanding workload it sometimes feels as though we have less life to live. While this may be true when we think about the time we spend away from school, we are investing more time in our work (as a true teacher does habitually).

There are still some activities that we should definitely increase to keep the positivity up and the endorphins flowing though! I for one, challenge you all to try and remember this when that head-drooping fatigue tries to render us defeated!

Walking around the classroom and avoiding the teacher’s chair not only wakens us to our students and their needs, but also helps prevent that mid-morning lethargic yawning spell. If you’re like me, it was only a few days ago I slept through half my regular work day! Getting back into the early starts may take some getting used to!

Furthermore, I ate a LOT less and a lot better. Part of this was because I was travelling and away from home and thus experiencing a lot that distracted my mind from hunger – on the other hand, when I’m at school, I often indulge in the treats that find their way into the staff room...

Look forward to the year ahead, and a new busier-happier you that everyone benefits from!
